Pork Ball Congee

This is a very soothing and fulfilling congee for a very hot and humid day. Another one of the fast to cook and good to eat food. :)

My siblings and I will have this congee almost every day when we were kids. One of my grandma's simple recipe again.  At that time, my grandma didn't add salt to the congee, so we were allowed to add lots of soy sauce and white pepper into it. Yummy..

Ingredients :

1 cup uncooked rice - washed and rinsed twice
8 cups water
1 cup of minced pork

Seasoning :
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
dash of white pepper
1/2 tsp corn flour
dash of sesame oil

Method :

Put rice and water into a big pot and bring to boil.

While waiting for the water to boil, mix pork with seasoning and set aside.

When the water and rice is at boiling stage, scoop 1/2 a tsp of minced pork into it.
Repeat the process with the rest of the pork.

Give the congee a little stir with a spoon so that the pork balls will not stick together.
Bring to boil again.

Cover partially, lower heat and let it simmer for about 1/2 an hour.
Stir the congee once a while with a spoon so that it won't stick and get burnt on the bottom of pot.

Then, off fire and the congee is done.
Season with 1/2 tbsp salt or to taste.
{ Can add more water ( hot water ) at this stage if u wish the congee to be more watery }

Yummy..

  4. Yes Lena. Two main types actually, pork balls and scattered ones. But I prefer pork balls, can get to chew it, hehe.

  6. Yes, adding spinach is one of our favorites too. But, my kids dislike spinach. :(
